Alliant Energy Foundation provides $5,000 to the Affordable Housing Network

Donation supports rebuilding flood-affected neighborhoods

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA – December 21, 2009 – The Alliant Energy Foundation announced today that they will be providing $5,000 to the Affordable Housing Network to support the Block-by-Block initiative. The Affordable Housing Network is a non-profit organization affiliated with Four Oaks and dedicated to providing reasonably priced housing in our community.

More than a year after the historic flood on June 13, 2008, there are still hundreds of Cedar Rapids homes uninhabitable or unoccupied. In an effort to restore these neighborhoods, the Block-by-Block initiative was developed. The mission of Block by Block is to rebuild, re-energize and revitalize Cedar Rapids neighborhoods one block at a time. The Affordable Network Housing Network is one of the leaders in this important initiative.

As a partner in this effort, Affordable Housing Network solicits contributions from individual, corporate and foundation sources, providing fiduciary oversight and consulting on affordable housing options and choices for the Block-by-Block initiative.

“Last summers’ devastating flooding severely impacted many families. These families were left with concerns about their own homes, as well as what would happen to their neighborhoods,” said Tom Aller, President-Interstate Power and Light Company, an Alliant Energy company. “The Affordable Housing Network and the Block-by-Block initiative are playing important roles in helping our community rebuild. The Alliant Energy Foundation is proud to support this vital project.

The Alliant Energy Foundation supports health and human service programs, education endeavors, civic activities, cultural and arts initiatives and environmental efforts. Since its start in 1998, the Alliant Energy Foundation has contributed more than $30 million to projects and organizations through a variety of programs and worthwhile initiatives.
